Four Places to Find You, 2012
Four-channel video, 16:24

Four Places to Find You was made during hiking trips Schrager took with her partner, Kirk, while the couple were living in New York City. Shot at Lost Creek, Turner Peak, Lac Canada, and Cutler Coast, the four videos enact a shared fantasy: Kirk disappears into the wilderness and Schrager, carrying a camera and wearing a bright pink dress, searches for him. When she finds him lying naked at a place he has chosen, she removes the dress and lies down with him, thereby saving him.

The work unfolds across four videos, moving between landscape, searching, the recurring pink dress, and the bodies of the couple. It opens briefly with the couple leaving New York City, a move that acquired an unexpected resonance years later when they eventually left the city themselves.

Made during Schrager’s Sarah White period, the work incorporates elements of that persona, including her signature glasses. It was originally presented under the title Help Me.

Original love letter (2012):

These videos are a fulfillment of my lover’s fantasy. In this fantasy he goes to the woods, sends me a letter for help, and I respond by coming to him. He picks out a place to die, I search for him, and when I find his naked body I take off my dress and lie down with him thereby saving him. I document this experience with my camera. I wear a pretty pink dress that I was gifted by a client – to me it symbolizes the confusion of being The Naked Therapist.

Here are the sex tapes that I created for my boyfriend, and this here is my one note to him regarding what we did.

Love,
Sarah
