Loop of Self (2024-26) continues Leah Schrager’s long-running exploration of self-representation by returning to the photographic archive of Ona Artist (2015–2020). Using AI, digital painting, and moving image, photographs are transformed into new still works and looping videos that move between documentation and invention. Rather than preserving the past, the archive becomes active—continually producing new images, gestures, and identities. As the body shifts between photograph, painting, animation, and digital artifact, the work explores what happens when an image begins to outlive, reinterpret, and recreate itself.
